Day 4 - Loon Lake to Revelstoke (Post #1)

Day 4 contained a few trials and tribulations. We had a great breakfast at our B&B in Loon Lake and then we headed north toward the US/Canada border, about an hour away. The trouble began after we crossed into BC. We had to go through Castlegar, a medium-sized town with lots of cars and confusing streets that were either not sign-posted at all or had odd directions on them. If you're ever headed up that way, ask me about navigating the roads there. It's really a miracle that we ended up on the correct road!
We decided to go a different route to Revelstoke and did we ever make the correct decision. I don't know what the scenery on our other route was like but we were in awe almost all day as we drove north on either Hwy. 22 or Hwy. 6. The above 2 photos, if you can make use of your imagination, are a sort of panorama of one of the viewpoints where we pulled off on our 2-lane mountain road. That enormous body of water, although called Slocan Lake, is the Columbia River! It was to our left as we drove north and we were often very high above it with gorgeous views. As you can see, it was sunny with only a few scattered clouds. The car temperature gauge registered an outside temp of 81°! We were very happy with our decision to take this smaller, but truly scenic road north. (We're off to breakfast now - another post will follow, hopefully, from our accommodation in Banff.)
